Amazonite is a mineral that is found in crystalized granite. It is a variety of microcline feldspar. Amazonite is mined in a limited number of mines in Colorado, Virginia, Russia, Madagascar, Africa and Brazil. It is found naturally in tones of greens, blues, browns, golds and blacks. The name was taken from the Amazon River, from which stones were mistakenly identified in the 1600's. Amazonite was used extensively by the Egyptians and called the stone of courage. Folk lore generally associates Amazonite with confidence, courage and hope.
